inoX-tech GmbH: Large RHEV deployment at "Bundesamt für Wasserbau"

Schedule:
2011-06-06 15:20 - 16:00
Abstract:

Aim of the project was the implementation of a RHEV environment which is capable to run about 300 virtual machines, distributed on 2 datacenter sites to survive a complete loss of one datacenter (high availability).

The virtual machines must be able to host RHEL 5, RHEL 6, SuSE10 and Windows 2003/2008 operating systems.

A further demand of the customer was to convert the existing machines into RHEV (p2v) and get easy administration by using Red Hat Network Satellite Server.

Key Parameters:

  • Solution consists of 30 physical HP DL 380 G7 servers as hypervisors.
  • Management Servers running Red Hat Cluster Suite: 2 FSC RX600 machines for the infrastructure services (Red Hat Satellite, DNS, LDAP, RHEV-Manager)
  • Solution is distributed/separated on 2 data centers to grant highest availability

RHEL6 – Security Infrastructure II

Schedule:
2011-06-06 15:55 - 17:55
Abstract:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux provides a complete portfolio of security technologies with solutions for all facets of your system, data, and communications security challenges.

SELinux continues to introduce and improve innovative security capabilities.

  • Greater coverage of system services by SELinux policies makes RHEL 6 more secure and resistant to security exploits, protecting system operation and data.
  • SELinux sandboxing allows users to run untrusted applications safely and securely.

The new System Security Services Daemon (SSSD) provides centralized access to identity and authentication resources, and enables caching and offline support. SSSD presents a generalized interface to clients that need identity and authentication, and should be the service of choice for access to identity/authentication services across the enterprise.

This lab gives an overview of the enhancements in RHEL6, plus it offers some hands-on excercises.

The Open Source Way Done Wrong

Schedule:
2011-06-06 16:30 - 17:10
Abstract:

In this presentation, various common mistakes are discussed. Red Hat shares some examples, and we'd like to gather some from you, if you will provide others from your team or other organizations that apply during the presentation.

One of the challenges of doing business the open source way is the balance of experience and expectations in your employees and shareholders. Accurately practicing the principles of open source requires diligence and patience. Sometimes other instincts and requirements cross the pathway of essential community principles.

Putting your community principles first in action and in risk analysis is essential to accurate practice of the open source way.

Ironically, even the best organizations are not always the best at what they do. Sometimes they break every rule in The Open Source Way.  In fact, every rule is being broken right now, somewhere inside of our favorite organizations.

A flash screencast of this presentation is available at: https://emea-partner-summit.com/content/open-source-way-done-wrong-0
